Review I have had many problems.como. Problems with this cars, recalls and minor stupid issues that should not happen at this mileage. Something about the pic valve makes your car idle rough and you must keep replacing it. The ignition coils always go out.
Also biggest issue with this car is the timing belt. And not the timing belt itself, it's components.
They all mess up so you must make preventive maintenance!?!? Your car can be running fine, then all of a sudden lock up your engine. This is a main problem. Sadly my friend warned me about it and then said 'I told you so' to my $5000 sudden expense. non-permissible content removed Passat. Only few models are worth it for vw.
Review I purchased my 2006 VW Passat 2.0T for about $25K from the dealership. It now has106k miles. The scheduled maintenance was always done on time, including the pricey synthetic oil changes every 3k miles. After taking the necessary actions to have the car regularly serviced(in hopes of having the car last) At 85K miles I needed to replace the front axel.
($1200) At 100K miles my car started shifting funny. I brought it to the dealership to take a look.
I was told I needed to replace the transmission. They quoted me $6000.
After this shocking quote I brought the car to a reputable transmission shop. I was told the same thing, I needed a new transmission. This quote was less at $4.5K.
Thats right, with 106k miles I needed to replace the transmission! In my opinion a transmission should not need to be replaced with 100K miles. The black rubber coating on the buttons is pealing, the sunroof is leaking, and the engine is misfiring.
I would highly suggest to anyone looking to purchase a VW not to. They are stylish and affordable but the cars do not last.
Review I've owned the car now for about 4 months. It's an ok driving car, I find there is a bit of a turbo lag. I have had the battery go dead after driving home from work one day, and the in dash CD player doesn't work, the screen reads 'CDC Hardware Error' This is unbeleivable as I had a aftermarket CD player in my older car and never gave me any problems. I just find there is no WOW factor with this car. I am nervous after reading all the bad reviews about the fuel pump and other electrical issues. The steering wheel lock module was a recalled item by VW, so mine was fixed.
Overall I think someday soon I will trade it and get something more age approprite for a 26 year old. Maybe a Mustang. Best Features I like the interior and the lighting. Standard transmission is always fun too. Having the auto windows up and down is another great feature, enjoy the sunroof and heated seats. Worst Features Increase the engine displacement, make a more reliable fuel pump, get rid of the turbo.
I know this would just be the 3.6 model but maybe the 2.0t was a mistake. Not to mention premium only fuel and certain blend of synthetic only oil. Ohhhh and make the car easier to work on. Some people enjoy doing the work on their own vehichles. Often times people don't trust the mechanic they take their car to.

Make it easy to change the routine things like brakes, and oil. I think VW would make more in car sales then service.but then again a $100 oil change at the dealer.no wonder they make it hard to work on.

There is clearly a design problem with a this year and this model's engine which ultimately results in your need to replace the engine!! In the 40K plus area the cars begins to burn oil, there is a problem with the cam shaft and high pressure fuel pump. VW puts a bandaid extended warranty that is designed to do nothing. It is carefully worded to protect VW and not the unsuspecting buyer.
